On June 25th, we had the pleasure of co-hosting a special session at the Loc360 Conference in Seattle alongside our partner, Phrase. Together, we convened global experts in multilingual content and artificial intelligence to explore how AI can seamlessly integrate into an organization’s ecosystem — not as a replacement, but as an enabler of smarter, faster, and more human-centered operations.
Keynote Insights from Bruno Herrmann
We were honored to welcome Bruno Herrmann, Vice-Chairman of LT-Innovate and Global Readiness & Effectiveness Leader at Global Minds Network, as our keynote speaker. True to form, Bruno delivered a thought-provoking address that challenged assumptions and offered a clear-eyed vision for AI’s role in global business.
“AI won’t take you to the moon — but it can generate a picture of it.”
This quip perfectly set the tone: AI is not a magic bullet, but rather a powerful tool that — when embedded thoughtfully into your workflows — can transform multilingual communications, product management, and beyond.
Bruno echoed sentiments shared by the CEO of Havas, asserting that organizations must become “AI-driven and fueled by human ingenuity.” Humans are still at the helm — deciding which AI to adopt, how to integrate it, and where it can add the most value.
“If automation is the challenge, then augmentation is the opportunity.”
The Three Pillars of AI Transformation
To harness AI effectively, Bruno emphasized the need to evolve across three dimensions:
- New Mindsets – Rethinking roles, responsibilities, and possibilities.
- New Toolsets – Choosing and deploying the right AI technologies.
- New Skillsets – Upskilling at scale and shifting the way people work.
As Tsedal Neeley, Professor of Business at Harvard, puts it:
“Companies must focus on upskilling at scale and transforming their workplaces with AI advancements — rather than clinging to traditional models of work.”
Make it SMART
What does it really mean to make AI “smart”? Bruno offered a pragmatic definition using the SMART framework:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Realistic
- Time-bound
These five dimensions serve as a checklist for developing and evaluating AI-powered systems and initiatives.
The Role of Experts in the AI-Driven Content Ecosystem
In the AI-enhanced content lifecycle, language experts and domain experts play distinct but complementary roles:
- Language Experts oversee AI-augmented content for accuracy and voice, integrating content and data services to ensure linguistic precision and brand tone.
- Domain Experts enrich AI-generated content for relevance and trustworthiness, focusing on customer experience and storytelling.
Despite industry differences, most ecosystems include content creation, translation, business processes, and content/data services. The goal is not to replace these functions, but to infuse AI into them to drive smarter outcomes.
Re-Shaping Content Operations
To fully capitalize on generative AI, humans must remain at the center of the process.
Bruno introduced the concept of T-shaped language experts — professionals who combine broad linguistic expertise with deep knowledge in specific domains. This dual competency ensures that language remains a vital conduit for both human-to-human and human-to-machine communication.
To meet AI transformation goals, organizations must focus on:
- Engagement
- Explanation
- Contextualization
- Evaluation
“Train your people to train your model — and then train your people on your model.”
A New Supply Chain Reality
As AI becomes embedded across the enterprise, a second, data-driven supply chain begins to emerge alongside the traditional one. Bruno noted:
“Some organizations may have 60% of their content in structured data, while the remaining 40% exists in unstructured or legacy formats. These two supply chains will need to operate in parallel — and eventually, converge.”
To manage this duality, collaboration between data scientists and language experts is crucial. Both must treat data as the engine powering modern operations.
